“How about this,” Alex says, smug and overconfident, “for every awful date you have where they leave you high and dry, I’ll finish the job.”
Henry’s face, smushed into the bend of his arm, stays alarmingly still.
“Excuse me.”
The beer bottle on Alex’s stomach begins to wobble, and Alex only narrowly catches it before it dumps over on his chest. He rolls over and leans on one of his arms.
“I mean. That’s what friends are for, right?”
Silence stretches over the living room, Henry’s face hovering above him from the couch. Alex stares at the rug until he can’t avoid Henry’s gaze anymore, then blinks up at him slowly.
“Right,” Henry echoes eventually.

Summary
It had been kind of funny, in the beginning – back when all this started, the impetus of it lost to time and tactical starvation and soul-destroying manual labour. Alex had almost wanted to argue about it – to bite back over the ‘funny thing’ – but that’s a lot harder to do when you’re passing notes through one of the more suggestible guards, face unseen. When Alex argues, he likes to do it with his whole chest; it’s not the same without being able to see your opponent.
Anyway, it’s funny – the fact that they’ve chosen almost the exact same codename. Austin and Austen. It would be laughable, if Alex could actually remember the last time he cracked so much as a smile.

Summary
This happens sometimes. When Henry returns home after attending to royal duties, after constantly being brushed aside, after days of being talked over at meetings. When Alex gets too wrapped up in his assignments, the promise of just one more line always fading with each turn of the page, pouring all his energy into a paper that isn't due for another two weeks. It starts to take a toll on the both of them, and well. Henry needs to be in control. Alex just needs to get fucked.

He heard the telltale sound of Henry’s book closing, the weight of it landing on the side table to free up Henry’s other hand, which ran lightly down the length of Alex’s spine and back up, rubbing gently at his neck.

“One more thing you should know,” Pez adds as Henry takes the invitation from him. “June Claremont-Diaz is coming.”
Henry freezes.
June Claremont-Diaz isn’t the problem. She’s a lovely girl, and her articles about their shelter openings have always been kind. Pez has invited her to each fundraiser since the Los Angeles shelters’ opening, and she’s attended every single one, happy to participate in the theme if she can get a good article out of it.
No, the problem isn’t June Claremont-Diaz. The problem is her brother.
Or, Henry and Pez’s new shelter is opening in Brooklyn, and Henry is determined to spend the entire night avoiding Alex, while Alex is determined to do the exact opposite of that.

Summary
“I’ve learned not to waste my time pining after straight men,” Henry says simply, “no matter how often they seem to turn up in my life.”
That stops Alex short. It’s not like he’s purposely seeking Henry out. It’s not like he’s trying to be an asshole and make Henry fall for him. There’s just something about him — Alex finds himself pulled toward Henry like he’s an eight-page essay not due for another month. That’s just how Alex always is: he dives headfirst into everything without a second thought, and he doesn’t stop until he’s deemed it a job well done.
This particular instance, though, is getting confusing. He’s not sure what he wants from Henry. He doesn’t know why he feels so drawn to him, or why he’s started wondering what Henry’s doing when he’s in class, or why the memory of Henry grinding in a stranger’s lap suddenly appears when he’s about to fall asleep.
Or, Alex meets Henry while studying abroad and has some very not-straight feelings about him.

Summary
The devil on his shoulder wins the debate pretty quickly as Alex experimentally rolls his hips, thriving in the friction between Henry’s pajama pants and his own boxer briefs grazing against him. He quickly checks to see if Henry is still asleep, he is, then rolls his hips again, starting a slow rhythm grinding against Henry’s leg. Alex is almost teasing himself with how slowly and gently his movements are, but he’s not in any sort of hurry.
