Now, it wasn't as though Boromir had never imagined conversations with his dead mother. He could hardly help it. Growing up, he'd thought often of things he'd tell her when he saw her again, things she'd like, things she'd find amusing, things from Faramir's growing up she'd never gotten to see. But the real conversation was quite different. Because as it turned out, she had been watching, and Boromir wasn't about to waste his precious time with her rehashing things she already knew. Thus, he was at a loss.
OR
Boromir dies but he doesn’t go to the halls of his fathers. Instead, he is visited by the ghost of his mother, and his mother kicks his ass into gear (because he has a lot fear, what he did to Frodo, sex, etc. you know) and he finds himself alive again and he has to go find his friends.
