    Summary

    In this reality, the original Kira was caught by L and sentenced to death for his crimes without the public being aware of his existence save for a few internet rumors. However, that was not the end of the case as more Death Notes continued to be dropped and to make matters worse, a popular franchise loosely based on the rumors emerged that has a lot more details than L or anyone else would be comfortable with. The year is now 2017 and a Death Note is dropped in America and finds its way into the hands of a disillusioned boy and a vengeful girl.

    Light has been under suspicion of being Kira for far too long. After his girlfriend, Misa Amane, falls under suspicion for actual DNA evidence tying her to the case. Light then goes into confinement. And even after he has gone to extreme lengths to prove that there is no way he could be Kira, L still doubts him. Because L just KNOWS Light Yagami is Kira. The only way for L to be assured of Light's innocence or guilt is to become handcuffed to him. And no matter how long it takes, L will get a confession. No matter what he has to do, he will find out the truth. And Light will do anything to save his own life, to convince L that he isn't Kira. Even at the cost of his own sanity. This is all just a game, but a game that could be deadly.

    But what L and Light fail to consider is that they aren’t fighting the real enemy.

    And this is what befalls Light Yagami during his 53 days in isolation, stripping down his sense of self until it reaches a point he no longer recognizes his own name and only wants an end to his suffering. As his delusions get worse and his mental and physical health rapidly deteriorate, the task force scrambles for an answer to save Light from his own mind, and eventually bring in Sachiko, which has some... less than expected results, ending in the Kira case being put on an unofficial halt as all the lead investigators have their own personal issues to get through.

    L, realizing he may have destroyed his best friend beyond repair, falls into depression, unable to focus on the case and returns to Wammy's House until he can get himself back together. Will the two damaged souls find each other again? Or are they both doomed to suffer in a world where Kira rules?
