The soft light plays across the dark walls of the bedroom, prismatic reflections of Clark’s unique radiance. Bruce reaches out a hand to touch, to admire the striking beauty of it. He rests his hand on Clark’s chest, and—the light swims, as if drawn to Bruce’s touch. Teals and cyans spark to life, surfacing to the epidermis of Clark’s skin and around the border of Bruce’s hand. When he draws his hand back, a smudge of glowing blue is left on his skin like a smeared handprint.
“Beautiful,” Bruce can’t help but say.

Summary
They’d been meeting up like this more often in the last few months.
Clark would show up, sometimes called on and sometimes on a whim, and they’d take a drink in Bruce’s study by the fire. Sometimes before Bruce left for patrol, sometimes after he came back, and most often on nights when the kids were covering it. It had taken a long time but, somewhat recently, Bruce had started to realize he had to take more time off if he wanted to be as effective as he could be.

[ Not particularly. ] [x]Bruce opens his mouth. Nothing comes out; nothing can come out, except until he forces, “Not particularly,” and then adds, “Where the hell is Superman?” because even if this is some humongous Jason-stamped prank, his first instinct is still to find Clark.
Jason becomes a matchmaker, Bruce transmigrates into a Justice League Dating Simulator, Dick regrets everything and Clark has no idea what the sweet hell is going on.

***Has Clark been dealing Bruce's absence since Batman was banished into the space time continuum? Has he been managing well? Absolutely not. The last thing he wants to do is write about a collection of ancient Greek statues, but the woman in charge is remarkably insistent, and Clark doesn't have the energy to question why she's so determined to tell him stories about the statues' sculptor.

“Difficult to explain,” Bruce said shortly, looking at nothing in particular.
Slowly, Clark lowered his head, wordlessly prompting eye contact. Then, he raised a brow.
“What was I supposed to say?” Bruce asked archly in response. “‘Hello, mother, your untimely murder opened my eyes to the glaring flaws in Gotham’s criminal justice system, and in the decades since, I’ve gone out every night in a bat costume to perform acts of vigilantism through gratuitous application of incredible violence. Would you like more milk in your tea?’”
Martha Wayne is resurrected for a day. Clark is mostly here for moral support and to make sure Bruce doesn’t crawl out of his skin from sheer stress, but he certainly wouldn’t mind making a favorable first impression on one of the most influential women of his best friend’s life. He just hadn’t expected her to be so incisively observant, though he really, probably should have.

Then, Clark’s eyes met his, and he pulled away so quickly that the sound of his retreat whipped through the air. His face, for a moment, was startlingly open, and naked grief cracked harshly through his expression like a fist shattering the surface of a frozen lake. Then, it was gone, and the slate was wiped clean as though there had been nothing but a mild smile there since the very beginning.
But Bruce knew what he’d seen.
“How long?” he asked.
Clark’s mouth twisted. “I don’t know why I thought I’d be able to keep it from you,” he said softly. “You know me too well. Was that even five minutes?”
“Clark.”
Clark’s lips turned up into a smile, fracturing his face, his eyes glittering shards of lapis lazuli. “How long for what?” he asked. “For how long we were married? Or for how long it’s been since you died?”
