    When he was sixteen years old, Kento Nanami probably nearly died. Yu Haibara would have definitely died, but Kento Nanami was probably going to die, too. In fact, even after he was saved, he nearly died multiple times, which taught him the biggest lesson of his life: it will never not be dangerous to feel sympathy for a crazy person. Unfortunately, before he even fully has a chance to move past that, he is suddenly confronted via that same crazy person that he really, really does not like sorcerers, and it has nothing to do with them being crazy, and everything to do with them being cruel.

    Or: Naoya Zenin is saddled with keeping his little sister with a technique that gives her a suicidal god complex under lock and key. This, of course, does not work, because he has negative interest in doing that. And he continues to have no interest in that, until tragedy strikes, and he realizes that suicidal god complex little sister is perhaps the only one that would call it a tragedy in a way he can hear.

    Sometimes, grief is grief. And sometimes, grief is everything but grief. And sometimes, if you want to be heard, you need to listen first.

    In his defense, Moko Inumaki was not specifically, nor intentionally, looking to grow up a union man. In fact, one could say he wasn't a union man at all. He just encouraged other people to unionize. And those other people happened to be teenage Special Grade Sorcerers who someone at HQ was probably attempting to kill using a borrowed knife, looking at their work load.

    Or: Moko Inumaki was raised in a basement by a mother with a strange scar pattern on her forehead. Until she got pregnant, and in his distress at the possibility of replacement, he burned the whole house to the ground and tried to fix his defective technique himself. But, everything worked out. After being abandoned in a forest on fire, he was found and shown what kindness and endless compassion meant.

    However, that doesn't mean he forgot the basement. So, when he saw a set of twins even smaller than he was in a cage, he kind of blacked out. Kidnapped them, herded the random Special Grade teenager that was there, for some reason, and accidentally, via wanting that Special Grade teen to get some sleep, may have sparked a strike. At a school he doesn't even attend.

    He would love to say sorry, but lying is a sin. So. Not sorry.

      So I have officially watched this movie at the best possible time (7.18.2025) because it means I could immediately follow that up with this fic the day it was fully uploaded.

      I cried reading this fic. A lot. As in I actually can't remember the last time I cried this badly reading a fic, which call me strange but I love it when fics do this to me. The catharsis and smut at the end tho: chef's kiss.

      This fic is amazing and everything I needed post watching the movie.

      I love this metaphor:
      I took a moment to organize my words. “I might get some of this wrong, so you'll have to be patient. I’m not sure who invented it, but it's very popular. It's a moral dilemma. You're standing next to a set of two trolley tracks, with a lever next to you. This lever switches the direction of the trolley from one set of tracks to the other. You with me?”

      “Yes.” Edward's voice was small.

      “You see a trolley barreling towards where the tracks diverge. You notice that it is heading towards tracks that have five people tied down. On the tracks parallel to them, there is one person tied down. You cannot stop the trolley. But you are next to the lever. You can choose to do nothing and let five people die. Or, you can choose to push the lever and divert the trolley to the tracks with one person on it and let them die. Do you follow?”

      “Yes.” His eyes remained on the road.

      “Now, what is the right thing to do?”

      He paused for so long that I was about to speak again, but then his velvet voice said: “The right thing to do is flip the lever.”

      I didn't want to force him to justify his choice so I let the answer stand alone.

      “Okay, now we're going to modify the question. The one person laying on the tracks is someone who is innocent. The five people are guilty of a heinous crime. You know this through firsthand witness and there can be no doubt that you are correct. What is the right thing to do now?”

      He paused again. I hadn't realized how instantaneous his answers always were: almost interrupting the last syllable of my last sentences. He was taking time, seconds which seemed relatively quick to me but must have felt like little eternities to him, to really think about it.

      “The right thing to do is nothing.”

      “One more. A little more analogous to our situation: this time, there are more innocents spaced out on the second set of tracks, in the future, who pop in and out of existence so there is a chance that none will be hit by the trolley. Let's say there are four more innocents, to even out the numbers. The five people on the first set of tracks are still guilty, but to different degrees. What is the right thing to do now?”

      He answered immediately: “Save the innocents.”

      “Even if they all happen to pop out of existence as the trolley passes and you save no-one and condemn five?”

      “Even then. The chance that more innocents would be killed by the trolley in the future is too large.”

      “Well then. If you came across a group of four men assaulting a girl, and you knew they were guilty, that they could hurt more girls in the future, what should you do?”

      “That was kind of rude, Mr. Malfoy, but it’s okay! I always thought you high-class types preached bout manners, but obviously, it must be an exaggeration!”

      Lucius’ cheeks pinked as his scowl darkened, but George didn’t notice as she barrelled on. “It’s alright, though! You don’t need to worry too much about that! Even if you’re kind of ugly on the inside, at least you’re absolutely gorgeous on the outside!”

      Everybody just stared at her as she beamed up Lucius. Behind her, Freddie was wheezing.

      George lost interest in their blank looks and found Draco gaping at her like a fish. She turned the full force of her smile onto him.

      “Imagine if you grew up this pretty, Draco, you’d have all the girls falling over you! That’d be splendid, haha!”

      Draco turned an alarming shade of red and looked like he was about to have a stroke, but George turned back to Lucius and grasped his hand. Oooh, it was very soft, probably because of all the fancy hand creams he slathered on.

      “It was very nice to meet you, Mr. Malfoy! Hopefully next time you won’t be such a wanker!” She smiled genuinely up at him and shook his hand before she released him and turned around to her choking twin. He looked like he was about to explode from mirth.
