Marinette made herself ignore Tikki and respond to the operator with a level voice. “There’s been an accident.” She made herself look at the street sign. She rattled off the street name calmly. “I don’t know what happened—” she couldn’t say Ladybug had fucked up her aim and yanked a person right off a roof, she couldn’t, secrecy was important for the kwami even if Marinette wasn’t going to be Ladybug again after this, not with what she’d done, “but there’s a boy lying injured in the street. His leg is bleeding heavily and he doesn’t seem to be conscious.”
“I’ll send an ambulance,” the person on the other end said after a short pause. “What else can you—”
Marinette ended the call. There wasn’t anything else she could tell them.

Summary

Meanwhile Viktor, twenty-two years old, figures that hey, as long as he can research magic, this isn’t too bad of a predicament.

Instead, Jayce’s thumb rubs softly into the back of his palm, pressing like he wants to idle the muscle mass into something new. It’s such a small thing, whatever this is, and yet it steadies the flow of his blood; the relief of loosening a valve, flicking off a pressure switch. It’s the necessary cracking-open of his breast. Jayce squeezes. Viktor allows himself the luxury of a sigh. “You shouldn’t be here.” he mutters.
Jayce reflexively shakes his head. “I took the day off.”
“We both know that’s-”
“—I could take the week.” he insists, almost a threat, a flicker of that eternal stubbornness coursing through him.
