“He’s a mess, his usually perfect hair is all out of place with strands sticking out in weird directions, like he’d been pulling on it. His clothes too— if it were anyone else Gavin wouldn’t see anything wrong with them, but Nines was different. He wouldn’t be caught dead without ironed slacks and a tucked in button up, the pretentious little shit. But here he was, an untucked tee with wrinkled jeans, and Gavin knew something was wrong.
There was also the wide-eyed, deer in the headlights look he wore and his harsh, sporadically blinking red LED that maybe clued Gavin in a bit more than everything else.”
Nines has a panic attack. Gavin helps him through it, even if he’d much rather be sleeping.

And if you were to ask it, him, he would tell you that deviancy affected him little, changed little. But when his partner, Gavin, is injured in an accident (it's fault in the first place) RK900… experiences a normal amount of stress relative to the experience. When his partner finally wakes up and doesn’t remember him? ... It will endure surely.

Summary
After closing Ada's case, Gavin and Nines return to normal life with the addition of their new relationship. However, love alone can't change Gavin Reed. It can't erase the struggles of his past or his hostile temperament, and his relationship with Nines pays the price.
Following yet another argument late at night, Gavin storms out of the precinct alone. He doesn't return to work in the morning, and a haunting clue suggests there may be more to Gavin's disappearance than a temper tantrum.

Summary
When Nines had gone missing, it was too shocking for everyone to ignore. The android had a perfect record when it came to being on time. Even the instances he had to walk in the rain he was still in the door by 8:30 on the dot, and had Gavin’s coffee steaming on the desk by the time the detective walked in at 9.
The android did not clock in at 8:30. The terminal still off by 8:40. No coffee on the desk at 9. Not a sign of the android as hours passed bit by bit.
Something was wrong.

Nines goes missing, and is found in critical condition. Gavin and Connor confront their feelings for not just each other, but Nines as well. That’s when a familiar voice rings through the cruelty of the night.

Not only that, but an assholish android who deems it necessary to not only question Gavin's professionalism but also invades his personal life. Ironically, the deviant may have a better grasp of living than Gavin Reed does.
What is there to say when you realize the machines you mistreated are no more a monster than you are?

The RK900 thought this would be a simple task. Prove his invaluableness to the precinct, solve cases, and move up as quickly as possible. Annoying his partner was just a treat on top of an already perfect plan. But Gavin Reed may be the one mystery Nines can't solve. Especially when it turns out that the detective and the android may have more in common than he initially thought.

Summary

Gavin has been secretly an android in the DPD for seven long years.
After Connor came back from his "great" revolution, a shiny new RK900 appeared and he's being forced to partner with it. All it does is freak him out with it's insane level of technology, reminding him of how far behind he is.
The changing laws and the newly classified android "murders" instead of property damage grind against his gears, making his increasing malfunctions all the more annoying.
Gavin might be an android too, but he hated them. They have no idea what it means to be alive.

Summary
Gavin Reed used to be an old dog who refused to learn new tricks before the revolution, an android hating, ill-mannered cop. Post-revolution, though, he pledges to be better instead of feeling ashamed all the time. RK900, when deviated, is a breath of fresh air, and just so happens to be so adaptable to Gavin that he forgets to feel that shame.
