Summary
Years after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the Mojave has gone to hell. The Courier and Arcade barely managed to escape with their lives, and have settled into a calm life living in Boneyard.
That is, until they are asked to return to the Mojave. To check up on the lost Followers expedition and gather evidence against the person who had a direct hand in destroying the Mojave.
But of course, nothing ever goes as planned.

Severina could read, years ago. She’d read a book about a long-gone country and a rich woman who said, centuries ago, to just lie back and think of England when her husband tried to touch her. She can’t remember what she thought of the quote back then, but now it’s become a what that she tells every new woman in Caesar’s harem. Just close your eyes and imagine you’re somewhere else, that you’re someone else, that he’s someone else. There are degradations that Severina endures when no other wife could or would that ensure her place among the Augusta Maritae. There’s nothing left in her that Caesar hasn’t already stolen from her. She might as well protect what remains of the other wives. She thinks of how to keep them all alive, of how to shield them from the worst of Caesar.
Now, though, all she thinks about is Atia and her garden, about Atia’s smile and her kiss and her laughter.(Two women fall in love in the desert. It would almost be romantic, if it happened to anyone but two of Caesar's concubines.)

Summary
Arcade Gannon meets the woman who would soon become his best friend, a loudmouth, impulsive lesbian named Rory Wood, when she stumbles into the Old Mormon Fort with a debilitating leg wound.
Soon, they cannot imagine traveling the wastes without one another, sharing a traveler's journal to keep track of all they discover together--but Rory's chaotic nature gets them trapped in the Legion fortress, with no way out until she does Caesar’s bidding with regards to the Platinum Chip.
Soon, the two are separated, and must adjust to life in captivity while they figure how to find each other again. Rory meets a young slave woman with whom she quickly bonds, despite neither of them speaking the same language, and Arcade is faced with a momentous task that will determine whether they are set free.
Whether or not they’ll escape the Fort, however, is only the beginning of their troubles.
This story explores the emotional depth of a queer, platonic friendship, delves into Arcade's past being raised by a single, Jewish mother, and reminds us that fate will always put us where we need to be, with the people we need to be there with--even when it gets scary.

“Then there you are, cara. You chose this life. Accept it."The Legion win, Vegas falls. Two women are taken into the new society, one willing and one not, and must begin to make something of their lives.

Summary
Six had always been dependable.
She accepted what was asked of her, followed through for no reason other than because she gave her word. She held herself together with something sharper than discipline, never letting the darker moments slip past the mask she wore so well.
So if anyone could survive the Sierra Madre’s open maw, where letting go is the hardest lesson of all, it should have been Six.
…Right?
As the walls Six built around herself begin to splinter under the weight of buried horrors, Arcade is left trying to piece together a story too difficult to tell, and hold together someone who is not-so-quietly falling apart.
