Summary
For as long as Tails could remember, it was the two of them against the world. Sonic and Tails, best friends and brothers by bond, if not by blood. There’d never been any doubt in his mind that they were on the same page. Nothing was ever going to come between them. It was a fact, and Tails had more than enough data to back it up.
What he didn’t consider, however, were the conditions they lived in when he’d drawn that first conclusion. When it was just the two of them living on their own, constantly on the move. Of course they were each other’s best friends. They were all they had in the world aside from a few meager camping supplies and Sonic’s plane.
But that wasn’t the case anymore. Stuck in one place, they had more opportunities to spend time with their friends and to make new ones. More than Tails could ever remember having at one time. Turns out learning to adapt to change is a guaranteed constant in life.
Tails wished he’d been given the memo sooner; then maybe he’d have had more time to prepare.
As their friend group expands to include both Cream and Charmy, Tails has to learn to share his big brother's attention with the younger kids. Spoiler alert: he isn't very good at it.

“What? The Park girl?” Kikimora scoffed, trying to dodge the mention of Darius, which finally had her flinching. “What will she do?”
“Hm, yes, whatever will one of the most powerful witches of her age do?” Alador scoffed.
“Not to mention she’s super protective,” Hunter said. “It’s very cute, honestly.”
“You two are very sweet together,” Alador said.
“Aw, thanks!” He turned back to Kikimora with a smirk. “See, I think Willow’s great. Absolutely amazing, the best person I know. And, get this: she loves me. So, I’ll enjoy what she does when she gets here. But you?” He tutted, letting out a low mock-sympathetic hiss. “Yyyyeeeaaahhhh, no. You’re not gonna like what happens next.”

Kikimora's poor attempt at kidnapping Hunter and Alador quickly goes south for her. Rule number one: don't ever mess with Willow's boyfriend.

Goon was surprisingly agile, hurling themself forward and throwing Leo off of them. They scrambled to their feet and attempted to hit the panic button next to the door, but Leo flung a knife to just barely graze at their skin to stop them.
“Now, I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Leo said, twirling another knife in his hand. The weight of his glocks grew heavier at his sides as they went unused, but this goon was awfully… cute.
(Leo hated to ruin a pretty face for no reason.)

He skipped past Donnie, stepping closer to Mikey and gathering all of his rings in his hand, holding them up to Mikey’s neck. “I think I’ll start with you, you lovely trickster.”
