I like the swap of middle names.

Percy had always been a little different, but no one found it strange. No one noticed his plum-red instead of flame-red hair and his bright blue instead of brown eyes. And until a certain potions lesson, he didn’t either.

Wow, that’s gotta sting, especially because he was already estranged from the Weasleys for his ambition.

    Summary

Then, he noticed clunky pixels overtaking some of Joe’s body. He startled, going into the code to see what was happening, and he looked back just in time to see the pixels glitch and distort, covering chunks of Joe’s body. The Hermit vanished. Ex cursed, scrolling through Joe’s code and seeing it begin to distort. After a long moment it settled, now in slightly worse shape than before. Glancing back at where Joe had been he tried to query him, and got back completely unintelligible information. Staring at the empty spot on the ground did nothing for them, but they couldn’t stop. They didn’t know what else to do. He continued his watch, turning back to the code for a moment too long and not realising it as the gathered Hermits awoke. He turned as Xisuma stumbled towards him, one hand outstretched.

“Issy.” Ex whispered on impulse, and X’s eyes hardened.

“You.” In one swift motion he pulled a sword from his inventory, and raised it to Ex’s throat. They froze, blocked in by a wall and the terminal. “I should’ve known it was you! Wh — Where’s Joe? What did you do to him?”

AKA: What happened after Joe disappeared in "Rouge Element".

Every time I read about Evil Xisuma being possessed, I can’t help but think that the guy who’s possessing him, if you look at Evil’s Fault, is named Jeff The Minion.

    Summary

Throughout his life, Joe Hills had always been ‘other.’ When the Hermits summarised their rag-tag group, they mentioned their hybrids first, then the humans, the eternals — many of whom could be more accurately catagorised as gods — and then, tacked onto the end, Joe Hills. He had, or rather, as the Hermits tended to put it, was his own category. It was… an interesting position to be in. To hear the Hermits ask: “Where did he come from,” “How could he do all the supposedly impossible things that made up his average Tuesday?,” “What was he, really?” Questions he had no answer for. He tried not to let it bother him. Tried to let the questions roll off him like raindrops down a mountain. Except — here was the thing: Raindrops hitting a mountain weren’t exactly inconsequential. Over decades or centuries, they made their impact. Carved their lines into the cliff faces, collecting into raging rivers at the mountain's base. Slowly chipped away at the peaks until eventually there was nothing left. Of course, this wasn’t happening to Joe! No, not at all! He was just being dramatic — breaking into prose at random was just a consequence of being a poet, as Cleo liked to say.

Or: The Hermits get into trouble. Joe has to fix it.

And a cheers to that! To being the literal middle man.
