He flicked his tail, moving at speed as he tried to figure out what was going on. Had someone mistaken him for a large fish again and was trying to catch dinner? Was someone throwing rocks? Was there a landslide? Was-
There was a man.
His eyes were closed, his legs tucked to his chest and his arms tied behind his back with rope, the same rope that was pinning down a large pair of white wings. He was sinking quickly, his heavy clothes filled with water and- rocks. There were large rocks dragging him down, silvery grey and surprisingly not matching in colour to the rocks embedded in the river walls.

Jimmy had gotten lost in the repetitive task, barely even registering the kitchen door creaking open. "I'm just about to wrap the last of these boxes, so we can start hauling everything out to the cars—"
The rest of the sentence got trapped within his throat once he turned to face the newcomer with an easy-going smile dancing on his face. It swiftly fell away, dropping into the pit of his stomach as he faced the moment he'd been dreading for weeks on end.
Everything about Scott was exactly the same as he remembered—his face was nothing but smooth lines, artfully dusted with colourful make-up that he had always found such pleasure in playing around with. His silken hair was still the same shade of the sky, styled carefully in loose curls which framed his face like gentle clouds.
Jimmy had lost count of how many times he'd imagined this exact moment in his head, replaying it in his head over and over again in an attempt to figure out the exact sequence of words that could mend the chasm which had opened up between them.
Lotta good that did him now.Or

It's Scott Major, dressed in an ugly red jacket a size too big for him and some equally horrendous leggings, ripped in rather unfortunate places. Joel doesn't have it in him to question where this guy has found all that ill-fitting clothes from, not when he's obviously desperate enough to sit down somewhere (kind of) safe that he's speaking to his old workplace rival of all people.
Ugh.
In a moment of generosity that surprises both himself and Scott, he nods at the kind-of-familiar face. Even to his own ears, his voice sounds awkward, almost as if he hasn't been using it since his final attempt to call Lizzie failed.
He hasn't. Not much point talking to himself when there's nothing worth narrating happening in the area.
"Eh, sure, whatever. Just don't bother me when I'm doing my thing."

What is a monster?
Avid didn't know who he was. They tell him he believed in vampires, would shout it from the rooftops when he could, but he doesn't remember that. He can't remember anything, and this person they're describing, he isn't sure he likes it. Still, with chronic pain from a wound in his neck and the growing threat of vampires - who are apparently real, by the way - he'll need to figure out where he stands, so that maybe, hopefully, he can make it out of this alive.

Summary
Once Vox went by a different name. Not Vincent. A different name that brought him shame and tasted bitter on his tongue. Even then, some of his happiest memories are from when he bore that name. But now those memories are tainted by his current reality and rivalry with the Radio Demon.
Unbeknownst to everyone but himself, Vox and Alastor knew each other once while in life. The crypt yawns open in front of him, wide and gaping. A maw into the depths of the earth that threatens to swallow him whole, if he would only let it. Avid stares at it, down the throat to hell, and it stares right back at him, mocking with its gap-toothed smile, leering at him from the ragged hillside.
Only yesterday he'd bounded into that place with a reckless abandon he can no longer summon, lost laughter bubbling in his chest. A high that had buoyed him along and kept him firmly on the top of the world.
He sits at the bottom of the world now, shoes scraping through the gravedirt underfoot as he scuffs his way along, firmly grounded and left to rot as others take to the skies on skin-thin wings.
