"Children, what are you doing on the ground?"
The twins scream and jump to their feet. Grunkle Ford is standing right behind them. Dipper will never understand how such a tall man can sneak up on you like that. Ford has some sticks and leaves in his hair and his hands clasped behind his back. His skin is still faintly tanned from his months on the Stan' o War II which is a good look on him. He actually looks younger than he did three years ago. There is a twinkle in his eyes that has been there ever since Mabel and Dipper fell out of the bus and right into his and Grunkle Stan’s arms.
"Are you two being mischievous already?" he asks with a laugh and leans over so he can see what they have been staring at. "The summer has barely starte-" He breaks off and just stares. "Oh my."
"It's my fault but it was an accident!" Dipper blurts.
"Well, my boy. If you had done this on purpose we would have even bigger problems."

One of the last skills you learn in dive training, and the one that likely sticks in your head the most is what to do if your buddy runs out of air. Even in the controlled environment of the training pool, the moment that the gauge hits zero is briefly terrifying. It’s surprisingly easy to forget until then that humans are not supposed to be under water. And then your air supply cuts off, and you are reminded of the fact that you are desperately out of your depth in every conceivable way.
Or, Stan and Ford go diving together!

"Stan was alone, the portal his only companion, he had been like this for a while now. Hunger was consuming him, unable to bring himself to eat anything at all. He could feel the strength leaving him as he cried, lamenting the absence of his brother. It was his fault, it always was. He didn't know what to do, what this portal was, and he was alone, completely alone. He just needed someone to help him. Someone who actually knew what to do."
His pleas were heard and that's when Fiddleford comes into the picture.
In which Fiddleford goes to “have a word” with Ford (he is so going to erase his memories) some months after the portal incident but finds instead a barely alive Stanley Pines in the basement. Fiddleford will now be forced to face all his wrong doings and become a better person. All while trying to bring back Ford along with Stan, having to earn his trust and maybe something more along the way.
Will contain lots of hurt but also comfort. And also, most importantly, Stan being happy (eventually).
