Summary
The time has come for Improvement Day, Heaven's decennial work retreat. The angels posted to Earth are relieved of their terrestrial assignments and join middle management in attempting to improve organizational operations right across the board. Typical activities include name games, trust falls, client-facing skill role play, and miracle budget workshops. It's loathed by all the Earth operatives- but particularly by Aziraphale, who always finds himself unable to fit in (no matter how many icebreakers there are).
This year, an angel no one quite remembers seeing before is on a mission to befriend Aziraphale, but it seems that the odds are against him. He has to contend with a networking-obsessed Gabriel and an unabashedly flirtatious colleague; Michael thinks he might be the next big thing in parsimonious celestial energy handling; and Sandalphon is sure he's seen him somewhere before. Meanwhile, Aziraphale's angry with him for showing up, the gold paint on his cheeks is flaking, losing a contact lens would mean a quick discorporation at the hands of four dozen angels, and isn't this just the story of Crowley's life? -

First time he sees him he’s barreling down 40 like a bat out of hell. Thirty miles outside of Flagstaff and six hours behind schedule. The desert looming large on all sides. Red sand and sage stretching out for miles and miles in front of him. Juniper and pine and gray crag behind him. The flora might be changing but that's about it. Same bone-dry air that gives him nosebleeds. Same cute little cottontails and scrawny jackrabbits darting under his tires. Same two lanes separated by white lines...
He checks his speedometer. He hasn't downshifted since the city limits. Sheer luck, that. He's coming up fast on another rig. Flatbed with Vermont plates. Bright white cab with gold wings painted on the side.
Anthony Crowley might have gotten out of Missouri, but he hasn't escaped his past. He wears it like a cloak. When he crosses paths with a guardian angel, he starts to learn how to shed it.

“Have an eye on anyone special today, Mr. Fell?” someone says too close for his liking, and Aziraphale's insides twist as he finds Uriel grinning at him. “Oh, I forgot, you missed the exhibition!”
“More to us, I say.” Duke Hastur turns around, for he has taken a seat in the row right in front of Aziraphale. “I know exactly what I am looking for.”
“Yes, we are aware,” says Uriel with a smirk. “You and Sandalphon both have eyes on the mysterious redhead...”
“Oh?” Aziraphale interjects, his curiosity spiking. Sandalphon and Hastur rarely agree on anything.
“Yes, the one with the rude guardian.” Uriel smiles rather pleased with themselves. “She would not accept any money to show what her omega was hiding under their shift...”
“That’s absurd if you ask me,” says Ligur, taking a seat beside Hastur. “A buyer should be able to see what they are acquiring beforehand.”
Today is the seasonal Omega Auction and all the alphas in the county are ready to take someone home.
