Emily left a report on Jesse's desk, but she was too tired to read the thing. She fell asleep almost immediately afterwards, on the usual couch. Her dream, however, was far from usual: she saw herself in a familiar glass cage in the Panopticon, wearing grey pajamas with P7 written on them.

One of Emily's reports becomes an altered item that apparently transports people to other realities in their sleep. When everything goes wrong and Jesse is left in a coma along with Dylan, Emily takes it in her own hands to dive in and get her back...-

Summary
In 2003, a group of kids discovered a birdcage with the ability to make any letter left inside it disappear, supposedly sent to the future. But nobody realized the birdcage’s true power until it was almost too late.
In 2019, a pair of low-level FBC employees wait out the Hiss Invasion by sorting through the letters and other documents of the birdcage incident to figure out what happened, only to realize that something is alive in the words.

Jesse startles, quickly pulls off the cat ears, and tosses them back into the bin. “Oh, just found them down in the Foundation with the rest of the weird old junk. You know, old broken instruments and stuff. Someone left a bunch of those lucky cat statues down there, too. It’s probably all just trash from the Collapsed Department.”
Emily raises an eyebrow skeptically.
“Hey, I thought they were kind of cute, so they went into my fall bin.”
Before Emily can protest with her typical, Head-of-Research caution, Jesse continues. “And yes, before you ask, I am one-hundred percent sure that they are definitely not Altered.”
