Summary
To Aeris's surprise Tifa shivered as the group left the inn to procure camping equipment. They'd been able to walk from Midgar to Kalm in under a day, and though they'd run into one or two monsters intent on attacking them, the group had coped without any real problems. However, after they left Kalm it would be likely more than two weeks until Junon though but Barret had mentioned something about a Chocobo ranch a few days away that they might be able to replenish supplies at. Either way, they definitely needed to prepare for sleeping outdoors, though at the mention of camping, an odd looked formed on both Tifa and Barret's faces.
Tifa caught the flower girl's questioning eye as they walked through the bustling town and offered a weak smile in reply. "I never thought we'd be doing this... I've been a mountain trail guide, bartender, eco-warrior, but never, ever thought I'd actually go camping."
Avalanche go shopping for camping equipment in Kalm, but Aeris doesn't quite understand why this induces such dread in her companions.

Cloud's delivery schedules and route had gotten somewhat... longer and more unusual ever since he resumed his vocation after the curing of Geostigma. Both Tifa and Denzel had queried on more than one occasion whether some of the orders were strictly accurate or anything more than a practical joke. Cloud could readily understand why they'd think that, but as soon as he looked at the scribbled orders, the knowledge of how to get to these places seemed to just drop neatly into his head.
Fenrir rolled to a halt outside a huge, squat building and Cloud powered the bike off. The sign above the door declared the place was called "Dragon's Neck Coliseum", and given the nature of his deliveries these days he wasn't going to dwell on that small fact that neither he nor anyone else he knew had ever made mention of the place. And he very much doubted anything would make him voluntarily enter into conversation about the place's secretary. The purple octopus greeted the swordman with at least four tentacles as he strode across the lobby, placing the package in front of the fanged creature.

“Someone’s burning the midnight mako,” Aerith says, sitting down beside him. There's a glass of water in her hand, and he stares at it quietly, tasting the drought on his tongue.
“Just a visit from my guardian angel,” Cloud mutters. He's sure that half the inn heard him screaming in his sleep – Tifa's brought it up enough times back in Midgar that he'll never forget that it happens sometimes. Embarrassment colours his cheeks just as brightly as the illusory fire had.

He didn't choose to admire a group of renegades, but now that they're a part of his life he can't walk away so easily.

CW: cursing and drinking
Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith share some downtime in Kalm’s bar. Tifa challenges Cloud to a drinking contest in which Cloud gets fairly drunk and surprisingly giggly. He says some revealing things until Tifa suggests they call it a night. Back at the inn, Cloud confesses to feelings and insecurities Tifa never would have guessed. They talk it out the following morning.

Cloud looks up at the window. The moon hangs like a jewel among the stars, a centerpiece pinned to a glittering veil. Aerith says she misses the steel sky, but he never could. In Midgar, the stars were just another thing Shinra took away.
He should close the blinds. He’ll regret it when the blaring sun wakes him at dawn. But he can’t close out the sky, not when he’s just gotten it back.
How could Tifa stand to lose it, living in Midgar for so many years?
She’s good at making friends, always has been. Maybe that was the draw. So many people, so many in need of help. She’s always liked helping people. Not like him, who’s always needed a paycheck. She’s tried so hard to help him, he can’t help but wonder if it’s wasted on him.

“What is it with you and cats?” Cait Sith strangely did not reply; he lay inert, his new programming transferring across.
Cat obsession was a weird, weird bug. Previously there seemed to be some corruption in the robot’s visual memory which meant the request for multiple objects happened to match the visual library for cat-shaped objects – Wutai having employed some obscure armour type in the past; hence its inclusion. Also a strange issue with Cait Sith catching sight of itself in a reflective surface. Both bugs at least made some sense, though remained annoying. And now a perfect opportunity had arisen to test the autonomous capability and newly debugged code; tracking down Avalanche.
Reeve is pretty sure he's fixed Cait Sith's cat fixation. Pretty sure.

Aeris leaned into him and for a heart-stopping moment Cloud thought she was going to kiss him. The moment passed and instead her lips drew level with his ear; he felt an odd mixture of relief and disappointment. She was so close he could smell her; the scent of dirt and flowers clung to her skin.
"It's a shame Mom is in this evening," she said, just above a whisper. "Otherwise we could have had some fun together. If you'd like... Cloud." Warm breath tickled his ear, his blood pulsed and he hardened as his mind scrambled to parse the words. He tried to discern if she was implying what his snap interpretation indicated. He turned his head and her gaze slid to meet his, her smile quirking a little more. "Maybe if you slept in a bit in the morning, after Mom goes to work... Well, then we could see about relaxing a bit before we get you back to your friends."

Aerith tuts her disapproval. “You’re just as bad as Cloud,” she chastises. “I’ll bet that finger broke all the way back in Midgar. You two are lucky I’m here to help now.”
After arriving in Kalm, Aerith shares a sweet, quiet moment with Tifa as she helps to heal her wounds.
