They slammed down hard. Scar ended up on top, his knee pinned Mumbo’s hips. His weight held him there. Silver stake in hand, raised, perfectly positioned.
Scar stared down at him, breath uneven, adrenaline roaring in his ears. Mumbo lay still beneath him, chest rising and falling, red eyes locked on Scar’s face.
Scar smiled; sharp, practiced, dangerous. “This is where you die, vampire.”
Mumbo slowly lifted one gloved hand and rested it against Scar’s cheek. His thumb brushed beneath Scar's eye, extremely gentle. “You’re beautiful like this.”

Vampires are cursed, not mindless monsters. But hunters don’t seem care about niceties.
When Scar -a well known vampire hunter- takes a contract, he expects a quick hunt and a clean kill this time. Instead, he finds Mumbo; a vampire who hesitates, a curse that isn’t so simple, and a chase that turns into something dangerously close to the one thing that was forbidden. He's been chasing the vampire for years, but slowly, Scar finds himself delaying the kill longer than he should. He has each time.
After all, some monsters want to be saved. And some hunters don’t want to finish the job.
Especially when love is the price.

It intensified into a blinding, agonizing sear, sending his back slamming into the wall when he jerked away from the source.
The half-burned crucifix glared back at him, red-hot through the shadows still crowding his vision. They wouldn't leave no matter how much he blinked. Voices sounded miles away and underwater. Someone was speaking, but Impulse couldn't tell who or from where. Even the wall behind him didn't feel right. It felt muted against his fingertips, like the texture was hidden by layers of gloves.
This wasn't right."
OR: A vengeful demon knocks Impulse out of his body, leaving it up to Skizz, Scar, Grian, and Gem to get him back. But the afterlife is not particularly kind to Impulse, nor is the demon possessing Impulse's body being any nicer to Skizz.

Summary
Mumbo feels doomed to take and rob from everyone he's ever dared to love, while Cub doesn't entirely understand what the big deal is. If you want it, especially if you need it, there's no reason you should fuss. Just ask and it's yours. Everyone on the server would understand. Especially if it's eating people. Like, everyone eats people from time to time, Mumbo, and most of us aren't doing it to survive. Chillax.
Cub does not understand the extent of what Mumbo is, of what Mumbo needs, but regardless, Cub would be more than happy to fear him.
(this can probably be read as platonic or romantic but in my brain it skews more romantic. if a clearer line is drawn as the story progresses I will remove this note lol)

"Okay," Xisuma answered, and that was that.

or, the Hermitcraft Backstory Rule says that you don't ask other people about their backstory, you let them tell it if they want to and leave it be if they don't.
Unfortunately for Grian, one of the newest Hermits was also a player on his old server - one he'd thought had been dead for years - and she's going to drag his backstory kicking and screaming into the light whether she means to or not.

“I know!” He tried hard not to shout, but the words just forced their way out. “I know.” He repeated, calmer. “But we have to do this. We have to. They have spent their whole lives cushioned and coddled by the good side of quirk society.”
Katsuki’s jaw was so tight, Izuku swore his teeth must be aching from the force of it. When he spoke, he did so through his teeth with pain clear on his features.
“You get it, don’t you; what you’re asking me to do? Izuku I-...you’re asking me to hurt you again. You’re asking me to be your abuser, again.”

OR: My take on 'Compassion Week' - where the hero students have to do presentations on why a villain might become a villain. Izuku and Katsuki decide to pick Quirklessness, and their presentation is...enlightening.
