Tommy flinched back from the river. “It boils souls?”
“If Bible fanfiction is legit, then yes,” Techno said, straight-faced.
He stared at him. Even in a realm with glass as pavement and a never-ending red glow, whatever Techno had just said was much weirder.
"Dante's Inferno? The classic? You've never read it?"
Tommy simply blinked at him.
“Forget I asked,” Techno sighed. “It states that Phlegethon is there to punish. How much you’ve sinned and committed violence is how deep you’d have to stand.”
The other edged further away from the flaming lake. “So not the time for your swimming lessons, okay.”
“Shut up.”
Tommy didn’t expect to be given a quest. Sure, Apollo’s flesh could be ambiguous. But not so much when your next of kin is a nine-year-old.
He also didn’t expect a Roman praetor with way too many titles and a weird grudge against him to come as well. But maybe falling into literal hell could fix a couple of misunderstandings.

Summary
Being an emperor was hard. It was a fact Phil already knew but never quite lost its edge on him.
It was a hard, bureaucratic job that left him wondering how he had any free time at all.
Or at least, any time left to be a father now that his sons were born.
A surprise to everyone but him and his love, he could only claim that he found them and took them in as his own. The adoring fools that they were, his subjects all believed him, accepting him as the kind hearted man he once was.
It left a bitter taste in his mouth to lie to them but it wasn’t like he truly had any other choice.
The public couldn't know the mother. If his citizens found out that their beloved emperor was worshipping Trixtin, the foul goddess of death, loss and murder they certainly wouldn't be very understanding.
Even less so if they found out his heirs were born directly from her cursed womb.

New bird dad goes to visit his babies in the nursery and finds an unwanted visitor. He then greets them with extreme prejudice and has a normal night about it.

“So…” Tommy’s eyes went back to Tubbo’s legs. “Was your dad, like…a goat?”
Tubbo gaped at Tommy. “You find out that all of the Greek gods and monsters are alive and real and the part you focus on is that?”
Tommy exploded. “I think I’m taking this very well considering I just found out my best friend has the rear end of a fuckin’ barnyard animal!”
Here’s three things about Tommy’s life that kind of suck at the moment.
One: His aunt’s a total jerk.
Two: Everything about his school sucks ass.
Three: He’s a demigod and is currently being hunted down by every terrifying monster within a fifty foot radius, and he also has to make it halfway across the country to a summer camp that may or may not exist with a satyr, an annoying prick of a musician, an incredibly paranoid warrior, and some old man who just won’t stop fucking smiling.
Yeah, that last one’s kind of a bad one, huh?

"Wilbur?" He asked his teacher, his best friend, his brother in all but silver blood, voice quaking as the man hissed, glaring at his hand in displeasure. The flesh was burnt, blackened, and when Tommy blinked it almost seemed like his skin was black as well, with poison-tipped claws replacing the neatly groomed fingernails. Then it was gone, replaced by the heavy burns that followed the path of the water the older had been splashed with, dripping down his wrist to pool against the cuff of his coat. It had been a simple movement in a moment of levity - a splash of water from his flask, a playful gesture towards a man he loved as he loved his Gods. It was just water.

“Um, thanks for getting me food Wilbur…but I have to be getting back.” Tommy finally spoke up. Wilbur hummed questioningly and tilted his head slightly, pretending he didn’t know where the boy had to get back to.
“T-to the temple… my brother and I live there.”
“Oh? Are you two training to be priests of XD?” Wilbur asked innocently. He keenly noticed the way Tommy shuddered at the question.
“Y-yeah, something like that, I really should go, he’ll be angry if I’m out much longer.”
“Aww, I’m gonna miss you, gremlin! Say, why don’t we meet here again at noon tomorrow? I’ll get you some more food and maybe you could tell me a bit about the temple.” Wilbur easily suggested, he did not add the thoughts swirling around in his head. Namely: You can’t get away from me that easily, child of life.
OR: Wilbur is an immortal demigod who has a grudge against XD for banishing his mother. Tommy, a child of XD, gets caught in the crossfire or more specifically: he catches Wilbur's attention. Wilbur plans to use Tommy to get back at XD but wait why is the child covered in bruises?!
