  3. Summary

In which Percy fell into Hell and thought it was the end, but Poseidon is too much of a protective, fierce father to let his son rot there, so he brought Percy home — but what he brought back isn’t exactly Percy anymore. He still has sea-glass green eyes but if one looks close enough, they’ll see gold too.

Or in which Percy ascends after Tartarus and Poseidon is ten times more of a protective father (and he doesn’t pretend he doesn’t revel in his son’s newfound power).

    Summary

“Find Medusa?” Percy spluttered, trying and failing not to sound indignant. “Nobody wants to find Medusa. You run into Medusa while trying to retrieve your uncle’s stolen lightning bolt and then mail her head to the gods after she keeps talking about how your eyes are like your father’s.”

From behind him, Piper raised a single finger. “When you mail what to whom?”

Percy glanced over his shoulder to give her a shrug. “Don’t worry about it. I was twelve,” he said before turning back to where Gabe was still fighting against the ropes binding his hands together. “Do you have any idea what to do with him?”

Nico leaned over, craning his neck to better peer at the hot sauce that still stained Gabe’s face despite the years of statue-ification. “Um, we could see if your dad wants to turn him into a fish or something?”

Percy grimaced. If Gabe Ugliano was a fish, then he’d be forced to hear the man’s voice in his head for years to come. But also, he could maybe mount him on a wall, so perhaps it wasn’t an entirely terrible idea.

    Or

Medusa’s sculptures are mysteriously coming back to life. Percy doesn’t think murder is an unreasonable action given the circumstances.

    Summary

Odysseus and Eurylochus have been through a lot over the years, the ten years of war and losing Polites being among the worst.
Their journey is almost done, but not quite yet.
Odysseus is struggling with guilt and trying to balance Polites’ and Athena’s ideologies, while Eurylochus struggles with trying to help Odysseus and remaining sane while doing so.

    Extract:

The air was sharp and charged, and Eurylochus almost imagined smelling ozone in the air as after a lightning strike, but no. This was something different. Something ancient.

The crew seemed to notice the change as well, and their conversations faded, and nervous eyes darted around at each movement.
He walked rapidly towards Odysseus’ fading form, ignoring the hair on his back standing up. Odysseus fell in step with him as Eurylochus caught up, footsteps pattering.

    “Odysseus.” Eurylochus murmured.

“I feel it too.” Odysseus answered, just as quietly. “Tell the men to brace for the storm. The worst is yet to come.”

    Summary

“If you don't mind me asking”—Aang’s voice shakes Hakoda from his reverie, and he turns to see Aang looking curiously at him—“why are you still awake?”

    (fire burning, burning, burning)

(smoke wafting from a still body)

    (waking up to roaring silence)

“Couldn’t sleep,” is all Hakoda can bring himself to say. He clears his throat and looks over at Aang. “And you?”

Something flickers in Aang’s expression then, a flash of emotion that Hakoda notices only just in time. It disappears as quickly as it has come, but in that split second, Hakoda has seen it.

    Grief… and sorrow.
    -
Hakoda and Aang have both lost too much in the war. Together, they learn what it means to live.
