Summary
Another small mewl came from its feet, and SecUnit looked down to see a small, young creature huddled underneath the bench it currently sat on.
This creature was shockingly tiny, with beady black eyes that stared plaintively up at SecUnit. It had sharp but unthreatening teeth that ringed an equally small mouth as it opened it wide and made another sad little mewling sound.
SecUnit only recognized it as a “cat” because it bore such a resemblance to the type of fauna that hung around Mensah’s farm, but it had only seen the relatively larger animals in person before.

Summary
In the middle of rewinding through its memory, it received another ping from Three.
Confused, Murderbot sent a ping in response, expecting a message or another form of communication. Instead, it received nothing but a short burst of three pings, clearly some pointed reply, although Murderbot didn’t have the faintest idea of what it could mean. It sent back one more ping as if to acknowledge, and then there was silence.
‘It has been doing that this entire time.’ ART said through a private feed connection between it and Murderbot. Murderbot tried to see what was happening with its leg, but couldn’t sit up enough to get a good look.

Summary
“Look what I found,” Chip said, sliding his tongue over his lips as he reached into his pocket to curl his fingers around the mysterious object in question.
It was a necklace. One with a thin, shiny golden chain that dangled from Chip’s fingers as he produced it, the rattling of the beads making a satisfying sound as it unfurled. There were pearls beaded into the links, odd, slightly deformed white spheres nestled neatly between pieces of an opalescent shiny gemstone as well as other similarly colored pearls. In the middle, hanging lowest of the entire necklace and providing most of the weight, was a large opal. It was wrapped in golden wire and looped delicately to the chain.

Mandy looked Robert up and down, and then actually laughed at that, her eyes crinkling up around the edges, blue eyes reflecting the sunlight. Robert felt his heart tighten, although it wasn’t out of shame or embarrassment. She wasn’t laughing at him.
“How about I walk you home?” Mandy offered instead, rolling her shoulders back in a half shrug. Her lips were still pulled into a soft smile. “I think you need it more than I do.”

“Comfortable?” Martin asked as he approached, fondness seeping into his tone. Jon turned in the vague direction of his voice, hoping he had picked right.
“Mhm,” Jon hummed, forcing his muscles to relax for once as he allowed the chair to nearly swallow him whole. He shifted slightly, hip aching with the sudden movement.

Summary
When the front desk had triggered the lockdown and called to say Mecha Man was in the SDN lobby with the Astral Pulse in hand, turning himself in, this wasn’t exactly what she expected. Mecha Man was supposed to be menacing. He was supposed to be feared, intimidating, imposing, a force to be reckoned with both in and out of the suit. Someone you looked at and thought, damn. Now that’s a villain.
When Blazer got to the lobby, all she could think was, damn. That’s just a kid.
The same thought returned to her now, watching the shallow rise and fall of Robert’s chest as he slept in the too-big hospital bed. Around either wrist, thick restraints pinned his arms down to the metal frame of the cot. Under the blanket that was draped over his legs, she knew the same restraints were fixed at his ankles, too.
“Feels like overkill,” she muttered, shaking her head again. Chase huffed a laugh, hunching further in on himself.
“It’s not. Kid’s a scrappy motherfucker, always has been,” he said.
