His powers become so much and he cant control them anymore. And when Arthur sees him, Gaius doesnt have any other chance but explain about the spell.
Maybe the spell’s purpose was not doomed after all.

Summary
Merlin is a great liar, somewhat. At least he can hide things well and talk himself out of whatever trouble he manages to get into. But one day, after he lied to a sorceress, she cursed him that, whenever he speaks the truth, rewards like coins manifest in and spill from his mouth if he isn't careful, but when he lies, vile creatures, slimy frogs, toads, the occasional spider, manifest and spill from his mouth as punishment. He has, to keep both the rewards and punishments secret, developed a habit of mumbling and speaking unclearly.
He still has to hide his magic, but on top of that, he also has to hide the curse, for which there seems to be no cure, and he despairs a bit when he becomes Prince Arthur's manservant. Even more so when, later, circumstances may force him to reveal, at least, his curse.
How on earth will he hide both his magic and his curse from the Prince of Camelot?!

"Of course I can hear you," said Arthur, and the gentle tone he used with animals had fallen away into annoyance. "Where are you?"
Arthur, it's me! Merlin abandoned his grip on the sleeve as well as his dignity and stood up on Arthur's palm, grasping at his shirt with both forepaws. He stared urgently into the man's eyes as they refocused on him. It's Merlin! Gwen's friend! I've been turned into a ferret!

Morgana Cursed Arthur and seized the throne.
Merlin partially saved Arthur from completely being a fox but had to take part of the day in an animal form himself.
Arthur is a Fox by Day and a Man by Night.
Merlin is a Dire Wolf by Night and Man by day.
They only get to see each other for five minutes at sunrise and sunset.
They try to stay together but Foxes are foxes and Wolves are wolves.
Phillipe wonders if God is laughing at him by making him deal with another curse. This time between two men who are clearly in love with each other.
This is a cross over between LadyHawke and Merlin

Summary
When Merlin is a child, he is taken from Hunith's loving arms to Cenred's unforgiving kingdom. Raised to be Cenred's soldier, Merlin draws the line at killing recklessly and must escape - finding himself in Camelot, trying to appear as inconspicuous as possible.
Of course, this doesn't work out, as he quickly runs into Arthur, the young king of Camelot. Though Arthur is wary, he is intrigued by Merlin, and follows his heart to the warlock... and into some serious trouble.
OR: Merlin is hurt, but he finds Arthur and falls in love, and that almost fixes everything.
